Writing Compelling Content on website

August 22, 2008

Seo Content Writing on web pages is actually a part of web design and development. But very few design firms actually have a competetant content writer.

The contents should impress the visitor and there should be some ad elements to your content like what copywriters provide to Ad agencies.

Visitors do not read full content so use tag lines to tell the visitor what is the key topic of the web pages.  In all pages the title and meta tags should be unique else your site will not perform well. Highlight important words using CSS and define terms using h1, h2 and h3 tags on the page. These tags should strictly be topic related and the hierarchy should be set by you keeping the relevant importance of your web page and the search term targeted.

These are important elements for search engine optimization for website promotion and makes the web page useful to the web visitors, best taken care during the web designing process. The web page design should be easy to navigate from one important link to another and relevant content finding should be made easy by proving well placed internal links which do not open in a new window.

What ever the number of pages your website contains, make sure that each has something new to offer. The Url and Title should define the topic well. If the URL does not contain topic related keywords than rename the resource URLs and use redirect to direct the old url to new url if substantial back links point to it.

The existence of a website page is to provide something useful to the site visitors. This should always be kept in mind. Even if the page is meant for advertisement the ratio of content to ads should be in the favor of the content. This is in order to provide useful.

Keep the content in well defined blocks and set the pattern for all web pages as the same. You should provide additional information about the product and service Vis a Vis its technology, market position etc.

You can add one or two out going links to site that provide useful additional information on terms which are not elaborated on your web pages. This if done correctly will increase the value and uniqueness of website content.

The addition of key words should be done naturally along with the inclusion of semantic terms which explains your topic or concept better. The key word density is not so important now a days but if you can increase the keyword density naturally to five to six percent it will help with many search engines.

Content Writing : Where to place links

May 15, 2008

When writing seo contents on a website or writing a promotional article it is important to know where to add your promotion links.

Remember an external link(promotional for seo) running away from you website or the article is actually meant to deliver additional info or explanation of some term. The term is part of the content but it is not explained in depth as such in the body, hence a link leads to that page which offers satisfactory answer. In this way the page delivering information is naturally rated high and gets valued back links for that page.
You can understand me better if you see Wikipedia and how they have given external links to terms which needs further explanation.

If you consider writing a informational piece or highlighting a product or the service. The first paragraph you are going to write is going to be introductory highlighting basic information. In an introductory paragraph do you need to add external links for further information …my logic says no!

You should place an external link in the body (middle) of the article of web page content where the high tech stuff goes and so it needs explanatory links to make the reader understand what the term, related technology, or related product is all about.

For a good seo writing the writer must revolve the whole content around the targeted phrase. For example if you are writing on tiger safari the article should revolve around the excursion in the park. If you add a piece on tiger conservation, it is definitely an another subject which demands a separate article.

In a Indian tiger safari article, one can give an external link to terms such as tiger reserves, Indian mammals, Indian birds, park guides and Bengal tiger. See the tiger at Kanha National Park. Around the external link should reside terms which are naturally close..well as close as possible….see the bold above.

But if you give an external link to tiger conservation in India which is about saving the tiger and is distantly related to tiger safari which is about an excursion in a park to see the tiger…I will not think very highly of the link. In short relevancy is the key if you wish for a well focussed representation on the search engines.

The external link can go in the last paragraph as well since it is usually explanatory and much more in depth than the first paragraph.

Lots of search engine optimizers talk about out going links and page rank dilution. But if a website content or an article is not giving external links to unfamiliar terms contained then it is poor in rating. So if you have placed justified external links on the body of your home page, I don ‘t think you will be loosing page rank. But the number of outgoing links should be limited.

The programmers of algorithms, I am sure would be think on these term when trying to justify the weight age of the article …content and the external and back links related with it. Sound logic is going to matter in search engine optimization. The search engines will never reveal their secrets..so start thinking.

Website Content: Mind your language

April 3, 2008

When writing website content your language matters. When you write seo content you have to add few keywords for correct indexing of the site. Now here lies the trouble….

Since keywords may not be a natural element of your content, but still you have to embedding them in your content. And it is not easy many times but if you have done your homework right you will succeed.

Website content matters both for the user and the search engine whereas the user decides the search engine indexes.

Well written content means higher conversion. Proper utilization of keywords means better indexing and ranking.

I have seen websites with content which is balderdash but keywords are there no doubt so the site is visible…but conversions? Only the client knows.

No one bothers to read full content on the website….visitors scan. So write neat and small paragraph with proper formatting with bold and underline…few important words here and there…do not over do.

Create tag lines on the website ..web designers…hardly do. This will inform the visitor what the website is offering.

Try your best to induct keywords as naturally as you can. Learn a little bit of grammar. Over use of keywords will not help on the contrary it will lead you site to being banned by major search engines for that particular keywords.

Rather you can create keyword prominence as below:

  • tiger
  • Bengal tiger
  • Indian tiger
  • white tiger
  • wild tiger
  • tiger safari
  • tiger tour
  • endangered tiger

This way you can safely increase keyword density for a website on tiger without getting penalized. But if you use the word “tiger” nth number of times then may the search engines protect you…he.he

This is an important element of on page search engine optimization.

Research the subject well before writing.
