Website Content: Mind your language

April 3, 2008

When writing website content your language matters. When you write seo content you have to add few keywords for correct indexing of the site. Now here lies the trouble….

Since keywords may not be a natural element of your content, but still you have to embedding them in your content. And it is not easy many times but if you have done your homework right you will succeed.

Website content matters both for the user and the search engine whereas the user decides the search engine indexes.

Well written content means higher conversion. Proper utilization of keywords means better indexing and ranking.

I have seen websites with content which is balderdash but keywords are there no doubt so the site is visible…but conversions? Only the client knows.

No one bothers to read full content on the website….visitors scan. So write neat and small paragraph with proper formatting with bold and underline…few important words here and there…do not over do.

Create tag lines on the website ..web designers…hardly do. This will inform the visitor what the website is offering.

Try your best to induct keywords as naturally as you can. Learn a little bit of grammar. Over use of keywords will not help on the contrary it will lead you site to being banned by major search engines for that particular keywords.

Rather you can create keyword prominence as below:

  • tiger
  • Bengal tiger
  • Indian tiger
  • white tiger
  • wild tiger
  • tiger safari
  • tiger tour
  • endangered tiger

This way you can safely increase keyword density for a website on tiger without getting penalized. But if you use the word “tiger” nth number of times then may the search engines protect you…he.he

This is an important element of on page search engine optimization.

Research the subject well before writing.

On page and Off page content

January 21, 2008

In web promotion the on page and off page content matters a lot. It’s all about writing both unique content and general information in the text.

Since induction of latent semantic or LSI the natural human language processing has come out to be more accurate for the search engines namely Google. This does not mean that all rare extremely describable and relevant word is all that the seo content should contain.

A good content is seo content with minor twist and turn here and there depending upon the way the search engines index.

The text should contain matter of general importance and unique description that is highly relevant to the subject concerned. Say for example if it is about eco-tourism then you should be sticking clearly to the subject, a beach vacation, or business travel content should not be in there.

It is tempting to include highly popular keywords that are related but not particularly to the niche service offered in that field. So mixing up content dedicated to eco-tourism with other types of travel for greater visibility might increase number of visitor seeking beach resorts and not places to see tiger at a National park.

This visibility is useless and frustrating since a larger number of hits is not bringing any inquiries or conversions. Highly targeted search terms though less in number can be extremely rewarding than a confusing mix up leading to nowhere. On page content writing is best inducted during the web design process and development of the website. Else lot of web page edition will be required.

Optimizing your web pages

November 5, 2007

When you move into optimizing a web site the fundamental task is to look at the contents since that is where the major seo impact is going to come from.  When I say content I mean that including title and Meta tags.  This is difficult to explain to some that title description and keyword tags have to be written by a search engine optimizer who is a good content writer.

My boss at the seo firm that I was working at would not let me have a go at the title tag since he thought he was good at it…which he was but not always.

If I tried to express my opinions on tags over which I did not agree, he would politely inform me that I am only responsible for content. But a boss being a boss I never brought forward this argument of mine.

I was a seo senior and team leader I was doing my job well as optimizer both on page and off page as well. Here I bring forth my experience.

Writing good title, Meta tags comes with experience and analyzing algorithms of major search engines. Writing title is easy some think…include your primary keywords…yes true…but search engines keep on tweaking their algorithms. So what impact will a title have on the train of keywords that a website has to be promoted? Or are you going to leave title tag to impact primary keywords and develop secondary search term optimization to content and back link creation…try it!    Same thing applies to Meta tags although some search engines do not give weight age to them.

The above elements only inform what the website is about and that is how they should be written, without spamming. Write a title with primary keywords including what people type along with them so that you can be effective on at least few more keywords.

Ex. Custom website design company on Internet for affordable web development.

Keywords in title…websitewebdesigndevelopment…affordableInternet…custom…company

Use a good keyword count tool and work out the number of effective keywords you can come up from the title. You can work out a similar exercise with regards to meta description …keeping the number of characters to 230 or 255 max.
